Community Corners

Safer Streets for Washington

Community Corners is a public art project in Long Beach funded by a $25,000 grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies and a matching grant of $25,000 from the JAG Foundation. Administered by Arts Council for Long Beach in partnership with the City of Long Beach Public Works Department and Habitat for Humanity, the project aims to create four bulb-out murals at the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and 15th Street in the Washington community. The project's goal is to promote safer streets for local residents by extending pedestrian space, reducing crossing length, and providing colorful visual signals for drivers. Through community involvement, local artists were commissioned to complete 4 asphalt art murals that reflect the culture and uniqueness of the neighborhood. This initiative is part of a global program that has included 64+ cities to date, making it a historic opportunity for Long Beach.
