Urban Oasis

Guillermo Avalos

Urban Oasis by local renowned artist Guillermo Avalos was painted as part of Long Beach’s neighborhood mural program in an effort to beautify areas of high defacement. The mural depicts beautiful scenic backgrounds as people peacefully relax and walk in between natural landscape backdrops. The mural breaks the third dimension with the concrete border that surrounds the painting. The concrete is depicted as crumbling almost as if a bulldozer broke through the wall and discovered nature. Through the hustle and bustle of the city, viewers are encouraged to get away from city life for a while by stepping outside of their homes and escaping to their own ‘urban oasis’.
