Untitled

Katie Phillips

Originally designed by Katie Phillips, this mural was completed in her honor by artists Mer Young and David Hedden, with artist assistant Jamuna Priti. Phillips’s previous work was deeply environmentally focused, and this piece was part of a themed series inspired by the “magical wonder” of Hayao Miyazaki’s films, particularly Ponyo. The mural represents the culmination of that series, which also includes a work Phillips created for the Aquarium of the Pacific. Together, the pieces explore themes of ocean abundance and a deep appreciation for the natural world, animals, and the interconnectedness of life.
