Totems

Miriam Wosk

Three colorful glass mosaic totem poles each with metal sculptures on top welcome residents of the Bayshore community, as well as those who pass by the corner of Bellflower and Colorado. The poles stand several feet away from each other and range from 7′ 8” to 9′ 6”. A variety of patterns stratify each pole. Miriam Wosk used colorful 3 1/4” glass tiles to create such patterns as diagonal, diamond shaped and checkered, alluding to a Californian style. A stainless steel metal sculpture sits atop each pole. Varieties of asymmetrical shapes are connected with bar stock, so that from a distance the shapes look like they are floating. Movement can also be seen by some of the shapes that resemble marine animals with tails and fins.
