Sea Spires

Cliff Garten

Sea Spires was completed in 2011 by Los Angeles based artist Cliff Garten. The three-16 foot tall totems are juxtaposed elegantly as a transit marker on the foot of the marina bridge across the long beach harbor. Sea Spires combines the idea of ocean conservation and public art to inspire and connect commuters closer to art in their daily lives. Cliff Garten used stainless steel metal to design organic curves that consciously resemble sea life. During the daytime the sculpture shines as it reflects the sunlight and by night it is illuminated by LED lights. The sculpture was commissioned by The Long Beach Transit in collaboration with the Arts Council for Long Beach.
