This mural honors the leopard shark, a sea creature native to Long Beach. The artist has this to say about the imagery:

“For a city so deeply connected to the ocean, I wanted to represent a specie that is often overlooked but truly fascinating: the zebra shark also known as Leopard shark. Beautiful, unique, and sadly endangered, becoming harder to encounter in the wild.”
