Dolphins

Elliott Pinkney

Staff artists worked with youth at Drake Park, Miracle on 4th Street Park, Admiral Kidd Park and Bixby Park to paint the dolphins during Fall 2008. Workshops were held with the youth to paint the dolphins while staff artists finished the fine details. The dolphins were originally installed in vacant lots at Pacific Coast Highway near 2nd Street and on the northwest corner of Broadway and Maine in Downtown. When the Downtown site was cleared to allow for construction of the new courthouse, the dolphins were relocated onto the Pine Avenue site with the approval from the property owner. The site was unofficially known as “Dolphin Park.”
