Big Sleeps

The Arts Council for Long Beach has partnered with artist David Velasquez “Big Sleeps,” Long Beach Transit and Centro Cha for DETERMINATION LB. An arts education and public art project composed of both art and wellness workshops for youth ages 16-24. Led by artist Big Sleeps, youth participants at Centro CHA learned artistic skills and created deep community connections. This project lifted art as a medium to engage residents in sharing their stories of hope, the search for identity, and alternatives to violence. The words painted throughout read harmony, respect, love, passion, mentors, laughter, music, discipline, joy, long beach, friendship, dreamer, painter and happiness.
