Port PHOTO alumni Weldon Spurling says photography has been the medium in which he’s “viewed the world for the last 48 or so years, through marriage 6 beautiful children, two different professions, and many hospitalizations. It has been a shield in troubled times, a weapon, and a friend. Photography has allowed me to mature and grow as a person in a safe place. Through the images I create, they really show my journey and hopefully you can see my strengths, my weaknesses. Hopefully you see joy and pain when and where I feel it but I really hope that those that view my photographs can see their own interpretation and viewpoint. I hope that the viewer becomes a participant and is able to tell me something about the photograph, I hope that we share something through the photo.”Showcased here are the photographs he took of the store front murals in the streets of Downtown Long Beach after the local civic uprisings.Like and follow his work on his Facebook page – Weldon Spurling Photography Contact Weldon and view more of his photography on his @artslb artist registry profile:www.artslb.org/artists/weldon-spurling/…PhotoWorks is in collaboration with @portoflongbeach & @artslb.We will be featuring Port PHOTO alumni from our previous cohorts via social media to show their work and tell you what they’re up to!
