Council District 5

Neighborhoods Plaza East and West, Lakewood Village, Bixby Knolls (south of San Antonio Dr.), California Heights, and Los Cerritos can be visited within Council District 5.

Art Mortimer’s mural “California Heights” is a standout work from this district showcasing the area’s agricultural heritage and ethnically diverse community as an entry point to California Heights historic district.

Located within this district as well is the Long Beach International airport, with its sleek streamline moderne and art deco sensibilities. Various mosaics created during the Works Progress Administration program can be viewed within the airport terminal. “Bay of Smoke,” a mosaic created by Patrick Mohr, depicts several stages of Long Beach’s development from pictographs and painted images of the Chumash to the incorporation of aviation in Long Beach.
