Turning Vacancy into Vibrancy Through Art

The City of Long Beach Department of Economic Development & Opportunity (EDO) and the Arts Council for Long Beach (ArtsLB) are partnering to bring color and creativity to the city’s business corridors through the new Vacancy to Vibrancy Storefront Program.

This program supports the City’s Economic Blueprint 2.0, a long-term strategy to invest in local business growth, foster community engagement, and transform underutilized spaces into opportunities for innovation.

Call for Artists

ArtsLB invites artists, illustrators, and graphic designers to apply for the opportunity to design temporary vinyl installations that will transform vacant storefronts into public art displays. These window wraps will celebrate Long Beach’s diversity, creativity, and forward-thinking industries, from aviation and green technology to local entrepreneurship and neighborhood identity.

Selected artists will receive:

  • $750 stipend for three concept designs
  • $2,000 stipend if selected for final design development
  • The opportunity to see their work installed citywide in Spring 2026

Printing and installation will be coordinated by ArtsLB in partnership with a professional vinyl vendor.

Program Goals

The Vacancy to Vibrancy Storefront Program aims to:

  • Beautify and enliven business corridors across Long Beach
  • Attract new tenants and support local economic activity
  • Celebrate the city’s cultural and creative talent
  • Engage residents and visitors through public art experiences

Artists who live, work, play, or learn in Long Beach are strongly encouraged to apply.
