On Tuesday, February 13, interTrend Communications will reveal their annual Lunar New Year installation on the first floor of their headquarters at The Psychic Temple. This year celebrates Year of the Dog.
Multicolored digital images of dogs that are trained by artificial intelligence will change with pedestrians’ movements and invite people to interact with them. Each dog is trained with 16 “tricks” to respond differently to adults, children and even real dogs. In total, an auspicious number of eight dogs will appear depending on the number of people viewing the installation. Also scheduled is a special music show every hour where the dogs are shown roaming and dancing with Long Beach landscape in the background.
“From the beginning, the most important component of our Lunar New Year installation was community interaction.” said Julia Huang, Intertrend CEO. “This year, we invited multimedia designers from RUMU Innovation in Taiwan to create responsive digital installation using high resolution LED panels as a canvas. There were many technical challenges since it involved unknown variables at the street level, but I’m happy to see that the result is mesmerizing display of evolving colors. I hope it will prompt people to slow down just a little bit when walking by and immerse themselves in this whimsical art. ”
Patrons are encouraged to share pictures or videos of their interaction with the Year of the Dog installation on social media with (hashtag) #gofundog. For every unique hashtag shared, interTrend will donate $1 to Long Beach Mayor’s Fund for Education up to $10,000. A special giveaway is also planned during the months that the installation is activated. Specific instruction will be at the location and on Intertrend’s social media: Instagram (@intertrend) and Facebook (@intertrend.communications).
The installation will be officially activated on February 13th and can be found at the interTrend Communications headquarters at The Psychic Temple, 228 E. Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90802. Lunar New Year kicks off February 16th.
