Join us at the Art@Work pop-up gallery space in Long Beach for the opening reception of Figurative Encounters, showcasing the work of Long Beach-based artist Virginia Broersma and AGCC studio artist Anna Erneholm.

In Broersma’s paintings, limbs, crevices, rolls, and bulges twist and contort around each other, pantomiming the language of the figure while not being a literal depiction. By doing this, Broersma is confounding the viewer’s ability to make judgments based on criteria that have traditionally been associated with figurative painting such as beauty and ideal form.

Anna Erneholm’s sculptures ebb and flow between abstract and representational iterations of bodily form. Her works are tactile, with organic undulating curves that contrast the industrial materiality of wood, ceramic, and stone. Erneholm demonstrates an intuitive language, which depicts bodily presence through abstracted form.

The Art@Work collaboration bridges two-port hubs, Long Beach and San Pedro, through artistic representation. Co-Curated by AGCC and the Arts Council for Long Beach, each organization is given an opportunity to introduce an artist to a new audience. The curators pair artwork through the Arts Council for Long Beach’s Artist Registry with Angels Gate studio artists.

Friday, February 7, 6-8 p.m.
Location: IDEA, Precision Dynamics International, 100 Oceangate, Suite 375 (street-level northwest corner) Long Beach, CA 90802
