Kicking off Thursday, July 24 from 6PM to 9PM, this one-night opening party is open to the public—no RSVP required. Come experience a visual mixtape of punk, hip hop, and Southern California culture, brought to life through the lenses of four boundary-pushing photographers.

Featuring Work By:
Sylvester “Duke” Givens
Long Beach native, Air Force veteran, and visual activist. Duke Givens turned a college photography course into a calling—most notably photographing childhood friend Snoop Dogg for the iconic Murder Was the Case cover. His images uplift, empower, and preserve the cultural heartbeat of the city.
John Gilhooley
From skate decks to concert pits, John’s camera has chronicled SoCal’s underground for decades. A fixture at OC Weekly and a documentarian of punk authenticity, John’s work is a love letter to the faces and places that shaped a generation.
Steve Allen
Unfiltered. Unapologetic. Unforgettable. Steve’s photography is bold and intimate—portraits that vibrate with life, grit, and light. He’s not just capturing moments; he’s curating experiences.
Jose Cordon
A decade-deep in commercial and cultural photography, Jose’s work showcases the soul of Long Beach through partnerships with the Arts Council, the Visitors Bureau, and beyond. His lens connects community and creativity.
Spinning Live: DJ JasperX
Bringing the sound to Sound on the Wall, DJ JasperX will be spinning a high-energy blend of old skool hip hop and punk all night long. A true Long Beach original, JasperX is both a DJ and a punk bass player, seamlessly merging crate-digging beats with the raw pulse of hardcore. Expect vinyl. Expect volume. Expect vibes.
Whether you were there in the pit or just love a damn good night of art, music, and beer, Sound on the Wall is the place to be. Join us for a celebration of photography, culture, and the subcultures that shaped the sound of our city.
