Event Navigation
Please join us on July 14 from 1:00 – 4:00 for the grand opening of our new exhibit, “Untold Legacies: Rethinking the American Cowboy.”
Located at Rancho Los Cerritos’ Visitor Center, the exhibit delves into the rich histories and immense contributions of African, Spanish, Mexican, and Native American peoples to the cowboy way of life. These men and women of color were often omitted from cowboy history books and negatively stereotyped in popular Western films. However, they were key players in the formation of the west. Their work on California ranch lands has both a long history and a lasting legacy, with their skills and techniques still in use today. This multifaceted exhibit is comprised of five components: Cowboy History, Hollywood and Myth Busting, Ranchos and RLC, and Pop Culture and Contemporary Cowboys.
The exhibit’s guest curator and former Arts Council for Long Beach Fellow, Martin Etem along with featured artists will be in attendance at this free family event. There will be delectable treats, crafts for all ages, a cattle-roping activity, a blacksmithing demonstration, and a folklórico cultural dance performance!
