“Never Fade Into Darkness”: An Art Show & Fundraiser for Kidney Health & Organ Transplant Awareness
March 1 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Event Navigation

“Never Fade Into Darkness” is an immersive art experience that shines a light on kidney health, organ transplantation, and the power of resilience. Hosted by Dialysis Education Services (DES), this event features guest speakers from the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and the University Kidney Research Organization (UKRO)—two organizations dedicated to improving kidney health through advocacy, research, and patient support. A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to further kidney research and patient advocacy efforts.
A Personal Journey Through Photography: The Story of Justin Pham
At the heart of “Never Fade Into Darkness” is Justin Pham, the muse and inspiration behind this powerful exhibition. Diagnosed with chronic kidney disease at 30, Justin’s journey has tested his resilience, self-reflection, and determination to keep moving forward. Now, on peritoneal dialysis (PD), he navigates the daily challenges of managing his health while continuing to share his story with others.
Captured through the lens of a close friend, this deeply personal photo series provides an unfiltered glimpse into Justin’s daily life—revealing the physical and emotional toll of peritoneal dialysis, the challenges of chronic illness, the strength required to persevere, and the hope of one day receiving a kidney transplant. Each image is accompanied by a narrative, offering guests a raw and intimate look into the realities of kidney disease.
Despite these obstacles, Justin refuses to let his condition define him. Through his openness, he inspires, educates, and connects with others facing similar struggles.
“This experience has changed how I see life. Before, I never thought much about my health or asked for help. Now, I understand the importance of both. I hope my story encourages others to take care of themselves and to support those going through the same fight.”
Spotlight Artist: Jimmy Quinzon “Jimmy Q”
Alongside the featured photography, oil painter, former dialysis patient, and kidney transplant recipient Jimmy Quinzon (Jimmy Q) will present a collection of works reflecting themes of faith, human connection, and survival. A native of Manila who moved to the U.S. in 1999, Jimmy spent nearly a decade on dialysis before receiving a life-changing kidney transplant in 2020.
Throughout his journey, painting remained his refuge. As he recalls, “Before my wife died, one of her parting words with me was, ‘Jimmy, don’t forget your passion. I know your passion is painting, so just paint.’” He carries those words with him, channeling his journey of survival, loss, and renewal into his art, inspiring others facing kidney disease.
Twenty percent of proceeds from his artwork sales will be donated to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and the University Kidney Research Organization (UKRO), supporting kidney disease research and patient advocacy.
