‘Mementos: The Things We Carried,’ is an 8-week art workshop series collaboration between VietRISE and renowned Vietnamese-American artist, Tiffany Le, also known as Le Tea Leaf. Led by Tiffany Le in six workshops, participants will learn various illustration, mixed media, zine-making, and printmaking techniques to create artwork celebrating the nuanced, vibrant experiences of immigrants and refugees in Orange County, CA.

This program aims to provide participants with the skills to utilize art to explore and envision a new world for our immigrant and refugee communities.

Participants will:

Participate in 6 weekly art workshops from April 6 to June 1, 2024
Learn various illustration, mixed media, zine-making, and printmaking techniques
Create a small collection of their own ‘moments’ to carve into stamps that will be part of a collective zine
Develop an art mural with Tiffany Le that will be displayed at the VietRISE Little Saigon Community Festival: Rise for Justice, taking place in Fall 2024
Drawing from the theme of ‘The Things We Carried,’ we aim to spotlight Vietnamese, refugee, and immigrant experiences, which juxtaposes the experiences of American soldiers during the Viet Nam War in the book ‘The Things They Carried’ by Tim O’Brien.
