Through art and storytelling, we as GABRIELA South Bay want to celebrate and lift up the history and culture of the Filipinos in Westside Long Beach. Inspired by the novel, “America is in the Heart,” written by Carlos Bulosan, a beloved Filipino farm worker, poet, writer, and activist who wrote about the early experiences of Filipino migrants on the West Coast. Together, we want to learn about our local community members’ migration stories, the OFW (overseas Filipino worker) experience, and how they found themselves in Westside Long Beach.
