DUALITY Art Show Opens at ISM Brewing

Michael Biagiotti (a.k.a. O.I.L. Beach) and Michele Rene are teaming up for art show “Duality” at ISM Brewing. The two Long Beach artists have exhibited together in group shows at Loiter Galleries, Metropolitan Design, Long Beach Creative Group, Coastline College, Covet Gallery and will both be participating in this year’s Long Beach Open Studio Tour.

In July of 2024, Michele Rene was asked to create a pop-up gallery for DLBA’s Art Walk at Fitness Identity Training, a local personal training boutique. She recruited Mike to display in a duet show where they transformed the gym into a one-night exhibition. The pop-up was a success and when Mike was offered a show at ISM Brewing, he in turn asked Michele Rene to join him.

“Our styles are different, but they somehow work well together,” says Mike.
Mike’s style is described as “California Outsider Art,” in which he derives inspiration from street and skate/surf life in southern California. Michele Rene straddles the worlds of realism and the abstract, but is most known for faces and figures.

Lately, both artists have been stretching these styles and exploring new techniques. Mike has been experimenting with spray-paint on board in the latest “Crowns, Horns and Stars” series, and Michele has been playing with photo manipulation of existing works as seen in her “Shadow” collection.
“We met a couple years ago, and have been cheering each other on ever since,” Michele says. “I’m happy we have a supportive arts community here in Long Beach.”

ISM Brewing is just one example of where local commerce and art collide. Owner Ian McCall hosts rotating exhibits in the downtown brewery and restaurant. “It’s all about community. My philosophy has been that in order for our businesses to thrive here in Long Beach, we need to support each other. That includes the arts. Showcasing different artists not only helps them get exposure, it also means my walls are filled with beautiful original art. It’s win-win,” says Ian.

The “Duality” show runs through October 31, 2024 with an artists’ reception Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 5-8 p.m.
