Hey Long Beach families! Do you have a creative child who is finishing up the 4th grade this month? We have an incredible, completely free summer opportunity that you won’t want to miss!
For the very first time, the Port of Long Beach is proudly introducing the Port Art Program, organized in partnership with us here at the Arts Council for Long Beach. This unique, one-week summer art camp invites young students from all across our city to explore the bustling Port of Long Beach through the creative lenses of drawing and painting. Taking place from July 13 to 17, from 2 PM to 4 PM at Silverado Park, and from July 27 to 31, also from 2 PM to 4 PM at the Michelle Obama Library.
Who is this program for?
With the Long Beach school year wrapping up next week on June 11, 2026, we know calculating grade levels over the summer can get a little confusing! This program is designed for incoming and outgoing 5th-grade students.
What Will Students Experience?
We welcome young artists to join us for a week of pure creativity. Over the course of the week, students will:
- Go on a Harbor Tour: Kick off the week exploring the history of the Port with a live, guided harbor boat tour.
- Learn Art Fundamentals: Discover the core elements of art, learn how to mix and use vibrant colors, and practice composition and design.
- Create Original Masterpieces: Spend dedicated studio time creating an original drawing or painting that captures the magnificent spirit of the Port.
Public Exhibition & Cash Prizes!
The fun doesn’t stop when the camp week ends. In August, the Port of Long Beach will host a public gallery exhibition showcasing our students’ hard work!
Even better? The exhibition doubles as an official art contest. An award panel will select outstanding youth artworks to win celebrated cash prizes at a special opening reception!
