The Arts Council for Long Beach is excited to announce a call for panelists to participate in the selection process for the curator of our FY24 Professional Artist Fellowship Exhibition. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a pivotal decision that will shape the artistic landscape of Long Beach. We invite community members, artists, art professionals, educators, and cultural advocates to apply and lend their expertise to this important task.

About the Annual Grant Programs

The Arts Council for Long Beach is proud to offer three annual grant categories that support the vibrant and dynamic art community in our city: Operating I & II, Community Projects, Professional Artist Fellowship. This year, we are seeking interested and enthusiastic individuals to participate in the process.

Role of the Panelists

As a panelist, you will play a crucial role in reviewing applications and discussing the allocation of grants funds. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing Applications: Carefully evaluate the qualifications and proposals submitted by annual grants applicants.
  • Participating in Discussions: Engage in thoughtful discussions with fellow panelists to assess each candidate’s vision, experience, and suitability for the grant.
  • Scoring and Recommendations: Use a provided rubric to score candidates based on specific criteria and contribute to the final recommendation.

Qualifications for Panelists

We are looking for individuals with the following qualifications:

  • Connection to Long Beach: Residents or individuals who live, work, and/or create in Long Beach and have a strong understanding of the local community.
  • Artistic Expertise: Experience in the arts, including but not limited to visual arts, curatorial practices, art education, or arts administration.
  • Community Engagement: A commitment to promoting arts equity and cultural inclusion within the Long Beach community.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Ability to work effectively in a group setting, valuing diverse perspectives and constructive dialogue.

  • Statement of Interest: A brief statement (up to 500 words) explaining why you are interested in serving as a panelist and what you hope to contribute to the selection process.

  • Panel Review Dates: July 31, 2024, August 21, 2024, August 23, 2024
  • Notification of Selection: Mid-July 2024
