Sean Cully
I am an artist living and working in Long Beach California. I am primarily a sculptor who fabricates human-scaled wooden and mechanical objects. Artists whose work inspires me include Tim Hawkinson, Theo Jansen and Martin Puryear. The design of many of my sculptures is determined by the solving of some self-imposed challenge, be it structural or technical, that I have set for myself before constructing the artwork.
My current body of work is designed to interact with and respond to its environment. I attended Long Beach City College before transferring to UCLA where I graduated with a BA in Fine Art in 2010. In 2015 I earned an MFA from Otis College of Art and Design. I have shown my art at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, the Torrance Museum of Art, Durden and Ray Gallery in Los Angeles, and Studio Baustelle in Berlin, Germany.
