My art making is influenced by my training as an illustrator. I like to explore the story and wrestle with the concept. Sometimes I do this by merging visual elements to find new perspectives on a narrative. Sometimes humor has a role in this.
Another way narrative plays a role in my artwork has been in examining characters who attempt to take control of their own narrative. My recent drawings and paintings look at characters who use their personal fashion and items they carry to signify this to the world they inhabit. I particularly find inspiration for this work from real people who take control of their identity and personal histories to confront intolerance and navigate life’s obstacles.
