Wendy Ortiz is a naturally curious artist from Anaheim, California who expresses her creativity through photography, printmaking, woodworking, poetry, fashion, and design.  Her artwork is rich in texture and intricate layering, with a central focus on her family’s memories, experiences, and collective imagination.

Wendy’s creative practice started before the age of 10, when she began hand-sewing purses, shirts, and other garments from her older sister’s old clothes and uniforms.  Since then she has developed a lifelong commitment to challenge herself across several diverse artistic disciplines, resulting in layered, emotional, and utilitarian pieces.  Every creation prioritizes both functionality and a specific connection to a person, place, or emotion.  Her work is deeply influenced by Mexican traditions, the power of music, relationship dynamics, and her lifelong journey to feel, understand, and celebrate her child self.

Wendy’s talent in film photography, printmaking, and woodworking has garnered her recognition.  Her work was featured in the group exhibition, Exposure v.2, at Casa del Mexicano in Los Angeles, CA in 2020; and the group exhibition, Silver, at the Irvine Fine Arts Center in Irvine, CA in 2019.

Wendy currently lives in North Long Beach, California, where she is building her art studio and woodshop and expanding her artistic disciplines in a shared home with her sister.
