David Sauer / One High Five
David Sauer is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter, who performs under the moniker One High Five.
With a mission statement to “be loud, be fun, be active, be smart,” Sauer believes music is a powerful and cathartic method of self-expression. Sauer works hard as a musician and bandleader to promote an energetic and supportive dynamic, always seeking ways to better itself as a team and brand. He believes one should be equally supportive and knowledgeable of its musical community and peers, seeking to be a trendsetter and example of its community’s finest.
One High Five released their latest single “Nerd Wax” in March 2021 which features playful twists on tempo, energy, and mood served up on a hot plate of grinding fuzz bass and bombastic drums. This single was inspired by Nietzsche’s theory, “he who has a why to live can bear almost any how.”
Previously, One High Five independently released Beardlip, their blistering sophomore album that “bursts at every seam with infectious energy” (Happy Mag) and their debut album, Here, Hear, praised with “layered guitars, well-honed orchestration, and appealing harmonies” (Indie Rock Cafe). The band has been featured on compilation discs and films, including their song “How We Enjoyed Ourselves” in the horror movie, The Lost Lake. One High Five has self-produced three tours with performances at the College Music Journal Festival, Broke LA, and Bridge City Sessions. Their song “Everybody Pull the Trigger” was featured on 106.7 KROQ’s Locals Only.
As an active musician in Long Beach, Sauer has performed at local events including Buskerfest, Long Beach Beer Fest, Live After 5, and Broke LA. Sauer is also a working audio engineer and stage manager at various venues including the Federal Bar, Supply and Demand, and the Long Beach Homebrew Festival. He is the owner and engineer of Camp Cabin, his personal recording studio, where he works with local musicians and the local music label, Monte Bre Records.
