Courtney Zell

I am a watercolorist and comics illustrator living in Long Beach, CA. I came by watercolor by way of urban sketching and quickly developed a love of the way the medium captures light and constantly challenges me. I want my paintings to tell a story–of a place or a moment in time.

I am also storytelling in my comics–currently in the form of a long form mystery called The Long Grave, combining my love of storytelling, history and drawing.

The Long Grave - Online Comic (2024)
The Long Grave is an online comic I have been working on for several years. A whodunnit spanning the years between World War 1 and 1926, it follows a journalist trying to make sense of her mentor's mysterious death in Baghdad.
