Carolina Pilar Xique
Carolina Pilar Xique is a multi-hyphenate theatre and film actress, director, writer, and producer. An LA Native, she received her B.A. in Theatre Arts Performance from Cal State Long Beach, acting in theatrical productions such as Vagina Monologues, Macbeth, Funfair, Stop the World, I Want To Get Off, and After Orlando with Cal Repertory Company. As a playwright, she has written a devised production, Generation XYZ, with Theatre Threshold and held readings for her short and full-length plays. Carolina specializes in devised theatre, having produced productions such as Dreamers: Aquí y Allá (voted “Best Play” by the OC Weekly), previously-mentioned Generation XYZ, Mi Amiga La Luna, and Contigo Theatre Company’s Stitching Stardust. She directed Venus in Fur, and musically directed First Date, West Side Story, Mulan Jr., and High School Musical.
She is currently serving as Artistic Director for Streamlight Theatre Company in Long Beach, which has historically been the producer of the virtual event, The Festival of Healing, as well as the popular, pandemic-safe, Halloween event, Chiu’s Haunted Drive-Thru. As Marketing Assistant at Independent Shakespeare Co., she produces and hosts the company’s Art Break podcast series composed of interview-based episodes about Shakespeare’s relevance in the modern world, news updates about taking action for social justice and equity, and short story-telling audio from ISC Ensemble Members. She also assists Los Angeles Female Playwright’s Initiative as Communications Team Member, conducting interviews with companies and artists all over the Greater Los Angeles Area to promote female-centric work. Currently, she is working on producing work that spotlights the many Afro-Latinx experiences, and creating podcasts that highlight accessible and anti-racist theatre practices.
