Brenton Shelkey Music
I first appeared on stage professionally at six years young, with the only singing and speaking part out of all the children in this full, but very small, production musical film titled “Love Will Be Our Home”, staged locally in the Auditorium of Lakewood First Baptist Elementary. I fell in love with the stage instantly and found myself playing the lead role in many plays and musicals throughout my time in grade school. I took a step back from the limelight during my time at Millikan High School, but stayed connected with my passion for the arts through acting and choir classes. I went to Long Beach City College and became a vocal performance major to perfect my craft. I am extremely grateful to the incredible professors and this wonderful program that offered me so much insight and growth in my knowledge understanding of music as well as performance. Although a future as solely an opera singer was only part of a much larger dream, I opted out of my degree in vocal performance and fully submersed myself in discovering how I could best serve the lives around me. I finally graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a Bachelors Degree in Biblical Studies. Though I intended to build a future with this degree, life is full of surprises and it has lead me in an entirely different, yet incredibly more profound direction than I could have ever imagined. During my undergrad I was able to compose seven original songs on the guitar, seven years before I realized I would became a full time musician, which is what I am now. I couldn’t be happier. I have so much I want to share and music will always play a large part in this journey. I have my roots. I have seen and experienced so much in Long Beach and I am excited to be part of any opportunity to give back. I was born and raised in this city and I am so grateful that it has provided such a firm foundation for my life as a performer. Long Beach is my home and no matter where the future leads me, my heart will always be here.
