CALL FOR ARTISTS: PANDEMIC-RELATED EXHIBITION AT LONG BEACH AIRPORT
Long Beach Airport (LGB), in partnership with the Arts Council for Long Beach (Arts Council) , is seeking up to 19 art pieces to display on large construction barriers around the airport. In response to the Arts Council’s National Endowment for the Arts grant to support artists who identify as women in honor of the 19th Amendment’s 100th anniversary, this call for submissions is specifically targeted towards women identified artists.
LOCATION: Blank construction barriers in highly trafficked areas of Long Beach Airport (pre-security). See photos below.
EXHIBITION TIMELINE: December 2020 through at least April 2021
ELIGIBILITY: This opportunity is open to artists who identify as women residing or working in the Greater Long Beach area; age 18 or older. Previously exhibited works are welcome.
ARTIST HONORARIUM: $500 per selected piece (artists may submit multiple pieces). Printing and installation will be covered by LGB.
DIMENSIONS: Each selected piece will be digitally reproduced and affixed to construction barriers that are 8’ x 7.5’. Artists must have the ability to provide high resolution digital files with a minimum of 300 dpi (hi res files will be requested upon selection – compressed images are fine for initial submissions).
APPLICATION DEADLINE: All entries must be submitted on or before MIDNIGHT on Saturday, November 14.
PROGRAM GOALS AND INFORMATION:
- Engage local artists to develop inspiring and positive artwork that celebrates our shared humanity during the pandemic.
- Support local artists who identify as women.
- Enhance the traveler experience with attractive artwork.
- Generate positive local media coverage and coverage within the aviation industry.
All submissions should reflect uplifting and hopeful messages related to the pandemic, such as highlighting frontline heroes or reinforcing our shared humanity. Messages with political themes or undertones will not be selected by the panel.
