As the Pine Avenue Improvement Project in Downtown Long Beach nears completion, beautifying and creating greater accessibilities along one of Long Beach’s most treasured corridors, the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA) are seeking artists to add one more bit of flair to the famed street: creative crosswalks.
The DLBA, via its Call for Artists, is seeking an artist or artistic team to design artwork graphics for pedestrian crosswalks at six mid-block crossings along Pine Avenue.
These creative crosswalks have been popping up across the West Coast, from Portland to Santa Barbara, Seattle to Oakland. And the DLBA hopes to expand these innovative pieces of urban design by selecting an artist that will create a series of design variations that reflect the unique identity, diversity, culture and/or history of Downtown.
Installation and maintenance of the approved artwork graphics will be the responsibility of the DLBA. Installation costs are separate from the artist contract for design services.
Per the Call for Artists, a design fee of $3,500 will be paid to the selected artist or artist team. The fabrication of stencils and installation of the art to the crosswalk will be contracted by the DLBA in coordination with the City of Long Beach, and is separate from the artist design fee.
