I am colored by a truth that is no longer mine. Longing for the transcendent and connective, I am confronted with a lack of proof. Tension, imbalance, and tangent speak to the simultaneous conditions of being human: humor and rage, joy and grief, grit and exhaustion. Elements of abstraction and surrealism create a place where magic and reason meet, where the viewer can project their truth on the image. Memory is plastic and lives in the body. I work in paint and texture to give the memories skin and fluid. They change with me. This work explores the development of my identity, the grief of apostasy and investigates whether I can know the world around me and if others can know me.
