LONG BEACH, CA: July 26, 2022 – Following a successful return to in-person performances, the Long Beach Chorale & Chamber Orchestra is preparing for another full season and will be holding auditions for the upcoming 2022-2023 season. Auditions will be held by appointment at Grace First Presbyterian Church on Studebaker Road in Long Beach. Rehearsals take place on Monday nights and will begin in September.
Interested singers are invited to visit the website at www.longbeachchorale.org, contact the Chorale at (562) 427-1931 or by email at info@longbeachchorale.org for information or to schedule an audition. Singers in all voice parts are welcomed; the ability to read music is required. Auditions are brief, informal, and non-threatening. To help ensure the health of our singers, the Chorale requires members to be vaccinated.
Led by Artistic Director Matthew Martinez the Long Beach Choral is comprised of more than 50 talented volunteer singers of all ages and backgrounds. For over 30 years the Chorale has consistently earned high praise and rave reviews for its performances of a wide variety of repertoire. Jim Ruggirello of the Grunion Gazette has called the ensemble Long Beach’s “best local chorus,” and said of their 2019 performance of Haydn’s Mass in Time of War, “Long Beach Chorale has the ideal sound for late Classical music. The timbre is not only beautiful, but the sections are well balanced and blended and the textures crystal clear.”
The Chorale’s past season included performances of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, a festive holiday performance and a performance at the Aquarium of the Pacific’s Pacific Visions Theater. The ensemble’s upcoming season will include performances of Vivaldi’s Gloria in December, Fauré’s Requiem in the Spring, and a return to the Aquarium of the Pacific.

About the Long Beach Chorale
Called “our best local chorus” by the Long Beach Gazette newspapers and recently awarded Best Performance Group in Long Beach, the Long Beach Chorale and Chamber Orchestra is in its fourth decade as a fixture of the Long Beach arts scene. Founded in 1988 by former director Mark Barville, led by Eliza Rubenstein for 19 seasons, and now under the leadership of Artistic Director Matthew Martinez, the LBCCO has performed many of the great works of Western classical music, and has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Long Beach Museum of Art, Rancho Los Alamitos, and the Carpenter Performing Arts Center, as well as with the Long Beach Opera. The group’s musical programming is drawn from around the world, and from the Middle Ages to the present day. Jim Ruggirello of the Gazette Newspapers says the LBCCO is “…a lean, mean choral machine…” and adds that “excellence is what we have come to expect from the Long Beach Chorale.”
The LBCCO is Long Beach’s only all-volunteer community masterworks chorus; all LBCCO members are volunteers motivated by their love of singing. Our motto— “great music, up close”— reflects our commitment to presenting masterworks in a welcoming setting and at an accessible price, and we pride ourselves on working within the Long Beach community to offer under-served music lovers the opportunity to experience live classical and culturally diverse music.
