“I am deliberate and afraid of nothing” serves as a powerful statement from the self-described “black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet” that is Audre Lorde. Her stoic portrait ensures the latter half of her quote as it relates to the Black Lives Matter movements and civil uprisings against racial injustice and inequity. Black folk and their allies stand in the face of adversity against the government and those who have been granted privileges that allow them to live freely of harassment and discrimination. This mural serves as a reminder of the worth of Black human life in the face of systemic and institutional racism.
