Lost Paradise
NeverMade
The piece is a call back to the hay day of Long Beach when it was a tourist destination in the 1940s given the rich history between Long Beach and the oil industry. NeverMade recalls, “I grew up in the surrounding areas and the oil derricks always looked like a dinosaur or a horse to me. I wanted to bring that nostalgia back with that piece. The device that holds the worse ‘Never Made’ is also a call back to some of Long Beach’s Art Deco architecture. The eyes are a symbol of a woman looking over the city that I live and call home.” Formerly commissioned at the Art Exchange, Art Exchange and the Long Beach Museum of Art have merged to form the LBMA Downtown.
