Weedy Sea Dragons

Lisa Jacobs & Chuck Simonian

These sculptures are part of the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency’s temporary, rotated art installations throughout the community. Three Atlantic Garden Flowers and three Weedy Sea Dragons were installed at this site. The flowers are part of The Atlantic Garden, a collection of fourteen 7-foot-tall multicolored iron flowers. They were originally installed on Atlantic Avenue between 20th & 21st Streets on February 13, 2007. The flowers were intended to be a Valentine’s Day gift from the City to its residents. The Weedy Sea Dragons are approximately 10′ tall. They were originally installed on Alamitos Avenue at 15th Street. The Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific was the first in the world to successfully breed weedy sea dragons.
