The Arts Council for Long Beach is excited to announce program sponsorship from the Port of Long Beach’s Board of Harbor Commissioners for $5,000! The award will benefit two schools in the Long Beach Unified School District through our Eye on Design program, which is in its 11th consecutive year, to third-grade students in the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD). Eye on Design is a unique 15-week arts education program that encourages civic involvement, critical thinking and creative problem solving. Throughout the 15 weeks, students work with a teaching artist, Betty Rosen, on visual arts concepts, and attend field trips to the University Art Museum and Downtown Long Beach. The program exposes students to the public art in their community and engages them to create a public art mosaic of their own. We are very thankful to our generous sponsors, and especially thankful to the generosity from the Port of Long Beach’s Board of Harbor Commissioners.
