River Session #3 | MILE 0: San Pedro

March 23 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join us for River Session #3, Mile 0: San Pedro/Angels Gate, as we explore San Pedro alongside poet and Creative Corps collaborator Nancy Lynée Woo and Long Beach Community Theater Artistic Director Ann Wellman. Our meeting point is the iconic Korean Friendship Bell, offering breathtaking views of the Los Angeles harbor, Catalina Channel, and the sea terraces of San Pedro hill. Gifted from the Republic of Korea to Los Angeles in 1976, this bell symbolizes U.S. independence, honors Korean War veterans, and strengthens the enduring friendship between the two nations.

During our walk, we’ll discover various historic sites and immerse ourselves in the observation of place, environment, and culture. Join us in responding to these elements. We will also be guided in a circle of sharing, movement, and journaling.

Our journey continues to Angels Gate, a Cultural Center serving as a unique and vibrant contemporary arts hub for the San Pedro community and greater Los Angeles area. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to engage in hands-on print-making, and the closing reception/ artist talk for Material Recovery, the show currently on view at Angel’s Gate(see more info below). Lynk Collective is a diverse group of printmakers located in Southern California, dedicated to promoting arts in the community. Established in 2017, the group collaborates on a range of projects using various printmaking techniques.

“Material Recovery: Printmaking with Recycled Materials,” curated by Christina Yasmin Fesmire and Jared Millar, showcasing works by LYNK Collective members.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to:

– Engage in creative field research in San Pedro.
– Connect with local artists, poets and other River Ramblers
– Participate in hands-on print making towards the production of a zine!

We suggest that you please bring water, a hat, and appropriate walking shoes. Bring your curiosity and favorite writing/ drawing tools: although notebooks and pens will be provided, you’re welcome to bring your own.

All participants will be invited to contribute work for possible inclusion in a zine and/or performance as a part of our Creative Corps collaboration with Nancy Woo.
