Peak to Pasifika Cordage Demonstration

April 13 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join Pasifika community members as they demonstrate cordage making from a local native plant: dogbane. Gathered from the Sespe Condor Preserve at 3,000 feet, this demo is taught by Chumash weaver, Tima Lotah Link. Cordage making is a skill shared by people across the world, passed down from hand to hand. Cordage made will be used in finalizing the creation of the Sister Mats, the handwoven sitting mats that will be connected to each other by the cords. You can see the cord-making process, and learn about the stories of the Sister Mats and their connections to this land and our Pasifika culture. This event is free and open to the public, supported in part by Pacific Island Ethnic Art Museum, Arts Council of Long Beach, and City of Long Beach.
