Caitlin Canchola

I received my Bachelors in Fine Art with a concentration in Illustration from ArtCenter College of Design in 2012, and a Masters of Fine Art with a concentration in printmaking from California State University Long Beach in 2020.
My current work focuses primarily on the animal image through historical and cultural lenses. I appropriate imagery, display mechanisms, and techniques to interrupt their intended means of casual consumption. I hope this disruption creates opportunities for viewers to interact more intimately with the current cultural and historical attitudes related to the animals depicted in the work.
In addition to my installation-based work, I paint and draw portraits, primarily animals that are extinct, endangered, or otherwise threatened. Mural work is something I greatly enjoy, and I see it as a lovely opportunity for adding beauty to the city as well as raising awareness for threatened species and empowering communities to support them.
