Theater for Humanity
We created Theater for Humanity in 2014 after the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson from the very teachings that liberated me from my community’s violence and hopelessness: Christianity and theater. Theater for Humanity envisions communities where we are policed by our neighbors: people whose names we know and friends who we trust. A world where committing a crime does not condemn a person forever but where forgiveness, healing, and reconciliation are available for both the police and the policed. Instead of armed, uniformed officers confronting people of color in poor neighborhoods, Theater for Humanity asks them to meet at the theater. The program includes 12 workshops, performances, and dialogue.
