ABOUT

The Asphalt Art Initiative is a grant program supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies and a matching grant from the JAG Foundation.

ArtsLB was one of 26 cities granted support to demonstrate the impact of asphalt art projects and public art activation in this second round of grants our project will be installed in 2022.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS

The Department Public Works and the Arts Council are collaborating to administer the grant as well as teaming up with community partners on the project. Habitat LA will lead community engagement in the Washington neighborhood alongside Arts Council for Long Beach. The Public Works Department has also received initial support from Washington Middle School, Habitat for Humanity Greater Los Angeles, and Long Beach Day Nursery.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND ARTIST SELECTION

Community outreach will begin in April of 2022 to engage the Washington Neighborhood on the vision, artist selection, and logistics. Artists will be selected from the Arts Council's Artist Registry and qualified artists are encouraged to join the Registry.
