Slanguage Virtual Workshop: Meditation and Drawing Our Stories

Slanguage will host a series of art classes on Saturdays co-taught by Slanguage’s co-founder Karla Diaz. These classes will feature sculpture, drawing, painting, and mixed media, and will follow Slanguage’s arts pedagogy anchored in critical thinking, social responsibility, and community building.

This series of workshops is for adults.

This week’s workshop will lead participants into a 10- 15 minute body movement and focus meditation. Participants will be guided to draw specific stories from their lives, and will discuss creating circles of sharing as important for creativity, communication and social justice. This week’s workshop will be led by Ciana Lee.

Ciana thrives as a Xicane-Hawaiian-Korean educator, artist, performer and special events coordinator out of Puvuunga (Long Beach, California). They hold a Bachelor’s degree in Arts Education and are currently enrolled in the WISC Waldorf Teacher Training program. Earning an Arts Education degree from California State University Long Beach supported them becoming trained in the many modalities and mediums of artistic process paired with a strong foundation in educational philosophy. As an educator, they are enlivened by the process of guiding others toward self-actualization through structured skill development, dynamic collaboration,resonant encouragement and personal catharsis. Ciana is an advocate of public, participatory and accessible art experience with affirmed diversity of representation. They have pursued facilitating art walks, installation of murals, exhibitions and shows through Tovaangar (Los Angeles) counties

Slanguage is a socially engaged artist collective hosting a series of virtual family workshops at Compound, focused on the power of creativity. This series aims to create a fun, safe, and creative space to provoke engagement, new ways of thinking, empowerment, and community connection.
