Why We Rise

WE RISE is an initiative of the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health that encourages wellbeing and healing through art, connection, community engagement, and creative expression.

Taking place during mental health awareness month (May), WE RISE includes Art Rise, featuring a series of outdoor art installations in greater Downtown Los Angeles; Community Pop-Ups across all Los Angeles County neighborhoods, and a robust Digital Experience, offering a vital line up of original programs that can be enjoyed at home.

WE RISE is needed now more than ever as the region emerges from the isolation of COVID-19. For more information, please visit whywerise.la.

About Bridging Wellness

With our breath of disciplines and vast reach in the southeast and port cities, we are committed to create new content on the topic of healing as a way to connect participants to resources and expand their network to include creativity as a tool for wellness.

Our model centers participants’ experiential engagement with artists and creators who actively use health and wellness as a tool for positive, healthy change in the community.

Themes important to our collaborators include:

  • mental health as spiritual and creative practice with elders
  • permaculture and food security discussions with BIPOC business in Long Beach
  • art as a vehicle to illuminate issues in our lives and alleviate stress in our communities
  • creative work to help heal trauma
  • cultural relevance of mental health, wellness and connection.
