Sister Cities International holds an annual global competition, Young Artists & Authors Showcase (YAAS), to encourage young artists to express the values of international friendship and cultural exchange through artwork, literature and photography. The theme for the 2019 YAAS competition is “Global Citizens: Resilient Communities,” emphasizing the importance of being prepared to respond to global challenges of the 21st century. Artists are encouraged to explore individual and community resilience by highlighting diplomacy and creative ways to advance peace through people-to-people interaction. For more information, visit www.sistercities.org/YAAS.

All local submissions are due by March 1, 2019.
Sponsors of the 2019 local YAAS competition are City of Long Beach Office of Mayor Robert Garcia; Sister Cities of Long Beach, Inc.; Arts Council for Long Beach; Long Beach Unified School District; and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Long Beach Alumnae Chapter. Together they will identify the best Long Beach artwork to submit to the International YAAS competition. Submissions will be accepted in the categories of two-dimensional art, literature, and photography. One winner from each category will be selected from the local competition for submission to the global YAAS competition. All applicants are required to upload the Sisters International YAAS contest forms.
