Join esteemed colleagues, students, and alumni honoring the late artist, Domenic Cretara, in a memorial exhibition commemorating his legacy as professor of Drawing and Painting in the School of Arts at California State University of Long Beach. Cretara an American painter of Italian descent born in Boston, Massachusetts, was a figurative artist and has often been labeled a modern Caravaggista, as he favors the chiaroscuro method of painting. Originally from Boston, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University School of Fine Arts, graduating with honors. In his academic position at CSULB, he had received marks of distinction for teaching, scholarship, and creative achievement. Cretara died on December 22, 2017 (aged 71) in Long Beach.
